We had a hard time finding the Prohibido Central Cultural museum - it's not on most tourist maps. Prohibited art, hard to categorize, but iconoclastic and quite different from the indigenous, religious, modern, ancient and otherwise cultural art that's plentiful in Cuenca.
The place hasn't had a major government/community challenge for awhile, a testament to Cuenca's civility and sophistication, although it had a hard time early on, and still has a difficult time getting itself in front of tourists.
The floor grate, upon entry. Bones underneath. |
A guillotine to play with. |
Steve, resting in an available coffin. |
It's also a cafe, these are the menu holders. |
I'm on the uh throne on the left (note the embracing hands) and the ladies' room's handwashing fountain (stream is hard to see, but there.) |
Handwashing fountain outside the bathrooms. Stream of water coming out of lady parts. |
Bodyparts hanging from cool skylight above. |
Kitchen entry. |
Interesting thought. |
I'd never seen Christ sagging off the cross this way. |
