Cajas National Park

Yesterday we went to Cajas National Park, 30km outside of Cuenca, Ecuador.  It was set aside about 30 years ago, declared a national park in 1996, is huge - about 300 km2 of park, and was oh!, so beautiful.  We're nearing the wet season, so it'll be green in a few months.

We hiked to an overlook 4400m high, and then hiked around one of the 270+ lakes in the park.  We saw a couple of endemic bird species, other birds, llamas, and lots of flowers (tomorrow's post).  It's frustrating to be limited to sharing this via these little photos -- it was magnificent.

Wind rippling the waters.  Big winds.
This moss was neon green in comparison.

A llama, grazing.
A couple of llamas walking nearby.  We're not in the galapagos -- they kept their distance.

Hike finished, tired but with hearts and heads full of beauty.
