Manu Jungle, part 3

They call this a click beetle.  It looks like a firefly from a distance, but it's the eyes that glow, and it bends and snaps/clicks to get away.
From the village, we took a boat down the river to our lodge (no electricity, no hot water, access only from the river), where we'd be for two days.  Donning rubber boots was the only option, as we had to walk from the boat, across bits of the river to the lodge.  My feet didn't like the constancy of ill fitting rubber boots, but they were a necessity.   Steve did fine, of course.  It was hot, humid, jungly.

Wide river, with very strong, and interesting currents, especially after rains.

Our lodge.
Lodge-boat access was through this little bit of the river, then

across this sand/rock bar, to the boat.
We saw cool stuff on our walks, including army ants, fire ants, beautiful bugs, lots of mushrooms.  I don't know if any of this is interesting or not, and the photos are a sad rendition of their magnificence.  The main event of day 3 was a trip to an oxbow lake, but that'll wait til next one -- the birds!
Army ants - didn't figure out what was going on, but they were very active, fighting aggressively.

This is a banana tree stem, very porous, all rolled up, with a bit of a core in the center.

My favorite mushroom.
A closeup - gorgeous, and very tough, hard, durable.

This palm has impressive protection - very prickly thorns, very painful.

Another mushroom, looking, feeling more like a big blister.

Feather edged little mushroom, with a dimple in the center.

This one about the size of a half dollar, like an umbrella and very fragile.

A walking stick.  It could jump!

Steve did his usual with butterflies, and has some magnificent photos of them.  Perhaps he'll share them?
