Yesterday, our last day in Quito, we took a bus to a more middle-class
neighborhood, and visited Oswaldo Guayasamin's Capilla
del Hombre, his Chapel to Man . His art celebrates Latin American mankind, its inequalities, political oppression, poverty and pain. There were photos of Guayasamin with
Castro, Mao, other revolutionaries of the times. No photos allowed inside, but you can find his work online. I liked this guy -- he did pain and suffering really well without pity or condescension, with love, honor and reverence. A man of the people.

After that we walked a bit in the middle-class residential neighborhood. A few photos of that:
Soccer field on the left, villa below, Volcan(o) Cotopaxi in the distant left. |
Trash day. Folks from the neighborhood put it out in these big bins for general pickup. |
All over the world. Hope Chancy made it home. |
Very uphill, sidewalk steps inserted where necessary. New buildings. |
More English on signs in that part of town. |

We've come to feel like Quito's a bit of home after all our return visits here. Moving on to Banos.
